Paper Dreams

Paper is my love, my fetish in the studio. I collect it, I paint on it, I sew, tear, cut and glue it. It is my favorite support to make with. It is so versatile and not at all pretentious. I feel a sense of freedom working on paper like no other support. Maybe because it is something we don’t think twice about throwing away in our daily lives. I love the feel of paper and how it reacts to its environment. The crackling, crisp noise it makes or how it moves when a breeze catches it.

I’m always thinking of what I can make with these papers. How I can incorporate them into my work. But I came to the realization that they are the work. Just as they are. The process of printing, painting, finding the papers and putting them together in some sort of soft order that pleases me is what they are all about. Sometimes the answer is just right there in front of us and it takes us a while to see it. But it’s there.
